Ode to Melissa

I was going through my iPhone this morning and found this photo of Melissa from when we were in Las Vegas. It was the only picture I took on my phone the entire weekend so I forgot it was even there.

Although there was a huge party for Aron's birthday, Melissa had a big birthday as well- 30! To celebrate we had a mini party on Saturday- girls only (except Savannah, Riley and Lexi since they would have been more of a handful). We got yogurt, manicures and pedicures. It was THE BEST pedicure I have ever had and I am going to make it a point to go every time we visit Aron. The theme to the salon was a paradise island and they use natural products (like oils, fruits and vegetables) from a large buffet bar. There were so many options that there was a menu. Mel and I got the same one- something cucumber. It was AMAZING. We had such a good time just getting pretty and eating yogurt (that's probably why I didn't have time to take too many photos).

I have a very special relationship with Melissa as we are the two in-law girls. I first met Melissa right after Brian picked me up from at the Airport. I was in Hawaii for a Rainbow event and had another event in Everette, WA so I flew directly into Seattle. When we arrived the house was empty since everyone was out watching fireworks for 4th of July, but soon it filled quickly. I remember meeting Melissa for the first time and thinking WOW- She was SUPER pregnant. Actually, the most pregnant person I have ever seen in person.

At my first Roger's Christmas Mel and I really became friends. That Christmas Stephanie, Dev, Whitney and Aron did Disneyland and Lisa and her family were sick and stayed home. So, it was Russ, Mel, baby Tanner, Don, Jane and Brian. This was the smallest Christmas I have ever experienced with the Rogers but I had the opportunity to develop a fun and close relationship with Melissa. She new the ropes and taught them to me. Tanner was the first baby I had ever held and she taught me about caring for a infant. We shared secrets and inside jokes. When I first joined the family she was my first close friend in the group. Now, 7/8 years later I have developed very special relationships with everyone, but she will always be that first person that really took me in and befriended me. She is so sweet, friendly, crafty and kind- and a good cook too!

I am lucky to have her as a friend and sister-in-law.
