4 1/2 Check-Up

Savannah went in for her 4 1/2 month check-up today. Again, she is above average for height and weight. She now weights 16 pounds 4 ounces (90th percentile) and is 28 inches long (95th percentile). Also, her head circumference was 16 inches. They said it was pretty normal.

Since I had to work I met Brian and Savannah at Kaiser. At Savannah's 2-month appointment I told Brian that Savannah and I both cried when she got her vaccinations. This time Brian kept telling me that I could wait outside and he would comfort her while she got her shots. He told me that he is much stronger than me when it comes to things like this. I agreed that he is stronger, but I kept declining his offer. During the first shot there was a delayed response. It was as if she was trying to figure out what pain is and then quickly realizes she doesn't like it. She it a pitch we had never heard before and her face turned bright red. I think it wouldn't seem as bad if our baby cried, but Savannah seriously is a super mellow baby and hardly cries. As I am singing her favorite song, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, I looked over and saw the horror on Brian's face. He later told me that he doesn't know if he could do that again. He felt like Savannah was mad at him afterward. Her feet swelled, but she was back to her happy self in just an hour or so.

Well, I guess my mother lied to me when she said, not to look at the needle, then it wouldn't hurt! I'm not sure who it was more tramatic for you or Savi?

I had to chuckle at this one. Not because the shot hurt sweet little Savannah but because it turns out Brian is a lot like his dad. Just one example; when one of our kids was getting stitched up Don turned white and they had to escort him out, very quickly!
