I find this topic fascinating since all that I have really heard on the surface is that it doesn't improve academic performance and financially hurts schools. Well, that all crap. Looking at all the empirical research done 16 out of 17 geographic regions participating are having a positive affects on academic performance. The one region that is having no visible affects is Washington D.C.- which is the only program that is designed to not include the component of competition between schools.
